The first building is demolished to make way for the New Bendigo Hospital
Thursday, October 06, 2011
A building that has stood at the front of
Bendigo Health Anne Caudle Centre campus for over 50 years will today be
demolished to make way for the New Bendigo Hospital. Bendigo Health chief executive officer John
Mulder and executive director New Bendigo Hospital David Walker will join staff
to witness the commencement of the demolition of the Home Assessment and
Rehabilitation Team (HART) building. Mr Mulder said the HART building at the front of
the Anne Caudle Centre campus is being demolished as part of the enabling works
for the New Bendigo Hospital. “The HART building was built in 1958 as was
originally used as nurses quarters. More recently the building has housed
Bendigo Health’s Home Assessment and Rehabilitation Team. “The building is being demolished today, to
allow Bendigo Health to construct a temporary energy centre to power the Anne
Caudle Centre campus while the new hospital is built. “This is the significant step forward and the
first piece of major works undertaken on this site in preparation for the New
Bendigo Hospital”, Mr Mulder said. Mr Walker said that today is the culmination of
years of planning for a new hospital. “We’ve been planning for a new hospital in
Bendigo since 2006, it’s very exciting to see major works commencing on the
Anne Caudle Centre campus today. “This site will be a hive of activity over the
next 15 months as we undertake a range of works to prepare the site for
construction of the New Bendigo Hospital.
