Preparing for a new hospital

Enabling works are underway to prepare and clear the site for construction of the New Bendigo Hospital and include:-

  • Relocation of ambulance services
  • New car park
  • Mercy Street closure
  • Temporary energy plants
  • Demolition
  • Intersection works.

Enabling works will be completed by December 2012.

Ambulance Relocation

This project involves the relocation of Ambulance Victoria services from their current site in Arnold Street, to strategic locations in the Bendigo area.

Mercy Street was closed to through traffic in July 2011.

The recent announcement of 80 additional car parks at Bendigo Health has brought some welcome relief for commuters accessing the health precinct.

Demolition of the HART building

A building that has stood at the front of Bendigo Health Anne Caudle Centre campus for over 50 years was demolished to make way for the New Bendigo Hospital.

Bendigo Health chief executive officer John Mulder and executive director New Bendigo Hospital David Walker joined staff to witness the commencement of the demolition of the Home Assessment and Rehabilitation Team (HART) building.

Havlin Street East complex

A major step towards the New Bendigo Hospital has taken place with staff relocating from the Anne Caudle Centre campus to their new home in Havlin Street East.

Demolition of former fleet offices (staff flats)

Asbestos removal was completed on the old fleet offices at the rear of the Anne Caudle Centre (Drought Street) in preparation for the demolition of these buildings.

A hygienist was onsite to conduct air sampling during the removal process and ensure the appropriate exclusion zones are in place.

Demolition of Anne Caudle Centre workshops

After the relocation of trades staff to the hospital campus, the demolition of the Anne Caudle Centre campus workshops has  commenced.

The first buildings on this schedule are the former electricians workshop and storage sheds.

When complete, this area will be made available to Bendigo Health patients and visitors as an onsite car park.
